Purpose Driven Dating

11 Aug

I need to do something that will stir up interest in this church, something that will get people’s attention, something that will make people say, “I want that guy to be my pastor, and I’ll do whatever it takes to make it happen.”

I need to do a sermon series on dating.

If there’s one thing that single folks care about, it’s dating. Now, I happen to be married (did I mention that I’m married?) to a wonderful girl named “Tammy” who I usually call “Tam Tam”, so I’m not thinking about dating so much these days. But most single people have a bad case of dating fever along with an ear infection of love.

That’s where I come in.

I’m planning on doing a series called “Purpose Driven Dating for the Wild At Heart”, and it’s going to cover all the hot topics: dating, courting, love languages, everything. I’m thinking it could be a long series, possibly 20-30 sermons depending on what the response is like.

Is anyone out there a graphic designer? Because I could use some help coming up with a series logo. I want a logo that communicates both trendiness and romance. Maybe a dove riding on a Vespa scooter or something like that.

Any other ideas for my series?

Spread the word on Twitter.

“Ear Infection of Love”…sounds like your series has got itself a theme song…

Which raises the question, would you be willing to write that theme song?

I’ll get back to you on that…

“Maybe a dove riding on a Vespa scooter or something like that.”

Just take a picture of Stephen Altrogge! Dove on Vespa, danger and romance… If he’s not your poster boy, I don’t know who could be!

Julian, from what I understand, this guy Stephen is a bit of a firecracker. That’s just what I’m looking for.

You could set people in your church up on blind dates and follow them around with a camera. Some examples should demonstrate a date gone wrong to help illustrate poor dating decisions.
Perhaps you could visit the local prison and set up a “Date an Inmate” program to help prepare inmates for reentry into the tenuous dating scene once they get out.
Another idea is to arrange a marriage for a few of your younger church members (may 13 year olds) to demonstrate the pros and cons of this option.

Let me know if you need more help.

Aaron, this is probably one of the best ideas I’ve heard in a long time. I especially love the “Date and Inmate” concept. Community service meets dating. Brilliant.

Its like a more extreme version of flirt-to-convert…

More extreme, more intense, and more awesome.

I threw together a picture for you of a dove riding a Vespa. Use it as you wish

I gotta say, if we’re voting, that whole arranged marriage of 13-year-olds is pretty darned snazzy. Now if you could just get around those pesky underaged laws…. :)

Perhaps I might plant a church in Utah…
